You can also send messages to Facebook friends via the Messages menu. This can be an easier way to find people if they're offline or if you're having trouble finding them in the chat box.

so I did a little experiment, i phoned up my friend who was nowhere to be seen in the top 30 i told him to look at my profile, when he did it didn't make a difference, i then told him to message me, i then messaged him back, still no difference. the list remained pretty well the same and no it's not in the same order as the list to the right. I do have to say though that the list is close to whom I chat with the most recently though not entirely. A girl I've had as a friend whom has not really commented much or said much is in the top 9 others with whom I've interacted more are nowhere to be seen.

I had a huge misunderstanding with a friend that lasted for 5 weeks of no communication what so ever. Neither of us liked each other's status, no sharing nor did we message each other. Heck we didn't even hang out or speak to each other in real life and we were living in the same dorm area on campus plus we had a 2.5 hours class together with a small class. During that time I looked at my initialchatfriendslist and he was always in my top 7, sometimes actually top 5 and once or twice he was the 1st one listed. So it seems it only has to do with looking at one's profile.I believe because of him being worried about our friendship he continuously looked at my profile because that was the only way to really see me or check up on how I was doing during the misunderstanding.

Friends with -2 comes first and this is chat order from first to last . After 2 they are people with -0 and this is strange dont know yet but its not chat order. I have made fake profile and i clicked my real profile many times and now the fake profile is 4.

The formatting of the messages also leaves a little to be desired and the order in which the messages are presented is from most recent to oldest, which is the opposite of how the chats are displayed in the Messenger app. Lastly, users are required to wait for downloaded messages to be processed. Once this completes the user is then notified that the chats can be accessed and saved.

What about all the people you asked to be your friend who ignored or deleted your request? Facebook keeps track of that. Go to in a new window) for a list of the people who hate you. Or maybe they just don't check Facebook that much. Probably both.

In theory, all your Facebook friends are actually people you like, and want to hear from, but that's not realistic. But it would be rude to defriend your aunt or your chatty high school classmate. Take the easy way out and Unfollow them. Their posts won't appear in your News Feed, but you'll still be "friends" as far as Facebook is concerned. Unfollow from the News Feed by selecting the ellipsis and clicking "Unfollow [friend]." They won't be notified and you can scroll in peace. Re-activate your virtual friendship later by going to Settings & Privacy > News Feed Preferences > Reconnect.

That cannot be changed just in a single day by chatting with someone else to replace the top position. Facebook understands if someone is consistently chatting over years even with fewer hours with person A Vs with someone person B for fewer weeks, this algorithm takes person A at the top of the Messenger Active friends list.

You will now be able to see all of your other friends who are currently using the feature. Each will be listed by location, showing their physical distance between you. The closest friends will be shown first and will be accompanied by a Facebook Messenger button which you can use to open up a chat with them.

Facebook announced Tuesday it was launching a system to send money to friends for US customers using its Messenger mobile app. googletag.cmd.push(function() googletag.display('div-gpt-ad-1449240174198-2'); ); The free service will be offered "in the coming months," according to a Facebook statement, and will put the huge social network in competition with services such as Square Cash and Venmo. The money transfer will use bank debit cards of members for a quick cash transfer, which may take up to three days depending on the banks used, Facebook said.Facebook already handles a considerable amount of payments through its platform for advertisers and for games on its network."Facebook processes more than one million transactions daily on the site and also handles all the payments processed on Messenger," the statement said."We use secure systems that encrypt the connection between you and Facebook as well as your card information when you ask us to store it for you."It was not immediately clear if Facebook would be able to generate revenue from peer-to-peer money transfers, but the feature could be the start of a more extensive payment network which could be profitable. The messaging service Snapchat also offers a similar feature, in partnership with Square Cash.rl/rcw 2015 AFP

Those are some of the easiest methods that everyone can use in order to find out where their Facebook friends are, provided that they have Facebook and Facebook Messenger installed on their smartphone.

For the casual user, Messenger is a fun way to communicate with your Facebook friends. You can chat with other Facebook users that aren't on your friends list as well after accepting access to the message. In the beginning, when Messenger was just Facebook chat, text chat was the only available way of chatting, and you could send pictures as well. Now, when tapping on the text box, you can add pictures from the camera roll, take pictures directly from the app using your device's camera, add gifs, send money, and have access to a number of different apps that you can use with the person that you're chatting with. You can share your location for 60 minute increments, play Facebook games, and set reminders.

Besides text chatting, you're able to record voice messages and send the recorded message to chats that you're having with other friends. There's a voice to text option as well if your friend can't listen to the message out loud. If you have a Pinterest account you can link it and send pins, or articles from well-known publishers like the Wall Street Journal. Like a message by tapping the thumbs up, or send emojis, stickers, and GIFs. Add more friends and create a group chat so everyone can join in on the fun at the same time.

As for customization, you can change the color of the icons and the text bubbles. When you send messages, the color that you select shows up in your friend's chat as well. You can view friends' stories at the top of the app, sending messages and emojis for each clip, and you can add to your own story as well.

For Android, the best alternative is Messages, the Android function that comes with your phone. It has all of the functions that regular text messaging apps come with, but of course there isn't a way to contact Facebook friends unless you have their phone number. The next alternative would be Whatsapp. Text, voice, and video chatting is good across the board, and just like Messenger you need to have some sort of internet or data connection to use it. Other similar functions to Messenger are photo and video sharing capabilities, GIFs and stickers, voice messages, voice to text, and group chatting. With Whatsapp, you can display statuses, and view your chats on your desktop. Just go to the Whatsapp site for web and scan the QR code with your phone. You're instantly able to view all of the chats that you have on your phone on your desktop or laptop.

Yes, Facebook Messenger is a useful app, but bear in mind that it drains battery power very quickly, and asks for a lot of personal information in order to download it. When it was first released, users were essentially forced to download it in order to chat with Facebook friends on a mobile device. If you're a user that utilizes a lot of functions often like video or voice chatting, sharing documents, photos, and videos, and you don't mind charging your phone more often, Messenger is worth having on your phone. Otherwise, the messaging application that comes with your phone or Whatsapp should meet your needs just fine.
